La estrella Simone Biles se retiró este martes por lesión de la final por equipos de gimnasia artística de los Juegos Olímpicos de Tokio 2020 y Estados Unidos, que buscaba el tercer oro consecutivo, se quedó con la medalla de plata superado por el Comité Olímpico Ruso.
Luego del susto por el retiro de Biles, Estados Unidos no pudo defender el trono y finalizó en el segundo lugar en la final por equipos con una puntuación total de 166.096 superada por el equipo ruso, liderado por Angelina Melnikova que obtuvo 169.528. Gran Bretaña se quedó con el bronce tras registrar 164.096.
Biles, de 24 años y ganadora de cuatro medallas de oro en Río 2016, finalmente obtuvo la medalla de plata luego de haberse retirado después de iniciar la competencia en salto de proto durante la primera rotación. Después de un intento fallido, Biles acusó una molestia en el tobillo y se retiró para ser atendida.
La organización de Tokio 2020 informó que Biles debió ser atendida por los médicos afuera del centro de Ariake y cuando regresó ya figuraba como suplente y no participó de la segunda rotación.

"Simone Biles se ha retirado de la competición final por equipos debido a un problema médico. Será evaluada diariamente para determinar la autorización médica para futuras competiciones", amplió la cuenta oficial de Gimnasia de Estados Unidos.
Biles había recibido la peor puntuación (13.766) en salto de potro y quedó por debajo de sus compañeras de equipo y de la rusa Anguelina Mélnikova, quien se quedó con el mejor puntaje (14.600).
La joven gimnasta no había tenido el debut esperado en las pruebas clasificatorias y expresó su frustración en sus redes sociales. "No fue un día fácil ni el mejor, pero lo superé", publicó Biles en su cuenta oficial de Instagram, luego de su presentación en Tokio 2020.
Y luego agregó: "Realmente siento que a veces tengo el peso del mundo sobre mis hombros. Sé que lo olvido y hago que parezca que la presión no me afecta, pero maldita sea, a veces es difícil".
